The IMF pointed out in the "Asia-Pacific Economic Outlook Report" that China’s experience in developing digital currencies can provide a useful reference for countries considering issuing central bank digital currencies. Srinivasan said that in recent years, China has made major efforts in the central bank's digital currency research and development. The digital renminbi has been tested in some cities and regions. He believes that digital renminbi has the potential to promote the development of inclusive finance and improve payment efficiency. It can expand the coverage of payment services, reduce the transaction costs of households and small businesses, provide targeted financial support, and improve the transparency of public finances.
Srinivasan said that maintaining a smooth trade relationship between China and the United States is beneficial to the world. He emphasized that China and the United States are not only large economies, but also major hubs in the global supply chain. The cooperation between the two countries will help the international community to jointly respond to urgent challenges such as the new crown pneumonia epidemic and climate change.
